An asthma attack occurs when the airway passage constricts (closes) to prevent the entry for dust or it may be due to an allergic reaction.
This causes the muscles in the lungs to go into spasm such that breathing becomes difficult.
Usually, the Asthma Pump acts as a bronchodilator as it relaxes the lung muscles to allow person to breath normally.
Firstly, if a person is suffering an Asthma Attack, ask the person if he has his pump with him and tell him to pump and breath in slowly and deeply.
Be calm and reassure the person.
Sit the person down in the position he finds comfortable, NO FLAT SITTING BUT SHOULD BE HALF SITTING POSITION.
If ever the person still has difficulties in breathing, it means the attack is severe, tell the person to pump 1 to 2 puffs in intervals 30 to 60 seconds up to 10 puffs. If he still has difficulties, call 114.
Let the person take pump as much as he wants, however, if medical emergency will come in 30 minutes, allow puffs in interval of 30 to 60 seconds.
If ever breathing stops, immediately start CPR.
